Educate a girl, empower a woman, inspire a community, change lives!

Baroness FlatherThe Right Honourable The Baroness Shreela Flather, DL
Patron of the Commonwealth Girls Education Fund
13 February 1934 - 6 February 2024

We are saddened to hear of the passing of our Patron, Baroness Shreela Flather. She was strong, committed and an outspoken advocate for women’s rights and fairness.

As a woman who shattered many glass ceilings, she often sought to ensure that people’s efforts, in particular those from Commonwealth countries, did not get overlooked. The gates at Hyde Park are testimony to this fact. They commemorate the lives of service people from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean who fought in the two world wars.

As a patron of the Commonwealth Girls Education Fund Baroness Flather supported events and even encouraged the charity to collaborate with other Commonwealth organisations with similar values so that we could benefit from working as a larger group. Thus, the Joint Commonwealth Organisations committee (JCO) was formed.

Our thoughts are with the Flather family at this sad time.
