Educate a girl, empower a woman, inspire a community, change lives!

As the Commonwealth Girls Education Fund celebrates its 50th Anniversary Year its Alumnae Association takes the opportunity to celebrate the life of the late Alice Hemming.

Monday 18th September 2017 - 12.30 for 1.00 – 3.00pm - The National Liberal Club, Whitehall Place, SW1A 2HE - Pre-lunch drink in the “Smoking Room” followed by lunch & presentation in The David Lloyd George Room

Our Speaker this year is Louisa Service OBE, daughter of Alice, who is eminently qualified to tell us of what inspired and motivated Alice during her long life.   Following Louisa’s illustrated talk there will be a presentation on the work of the Fund and a chance to share news of past and present girls with you.  Monies raised by this lunch will support the CGEF Alumnae Association.

For forty years the late Alice Hemming OBE was President of the CCL and with her former career in journalism was the driving force to expand the ideals of the CCL.   In 1967 she founded the Education Fund which became a registered charity in 1982 and many girls have benefited from secondary education through its auspices.  The Annual Commonwealth Fair was started by Alice to support the work of the Fund.

Lunch will cost:  £35.00 to include a welcome drink, 2 course lunch of Fillet of Sea Bass, Pea, Mint & Sorrel Veloute;   Aubergine Parmigana is the Vegetarian alternative* - both served with New Potatoes and Vegetables.  Followed by Buttermilk Pannacotta with Seasonal Berries,  Coffee/Tea & Mints.    Please specify whether you require the vegetarian option* when reserving your place/s.  Drinks ordered at the lunch are on a cash basis.
